NDE Boss Urges Use Of Solar Energy
The Director General of National Directorate of Employment, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, has called on experts in the energy sector to begin to explore solar energy to boost electricity supply in the country.
Mohammed said this in Osogbo on Wednesday at the graduation ceremony for 700 participants under the NDE's Solar Energy Training Scheme.
His speech was read at the ceremony by the Coordinator of NDE in Osun State, Mr. Sola Daramola.
The NDE boss stated that it was high time Nigerians began to explore abundant opportunities available in using the sun to generate electricity.
According to him, the electricity generation in the country is low and solar energy could be the panacea for the age long problem confronting the nation.
He said, "The objective of the training is to equip unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions with skills for energy harvest, installation and maintenance of solar power facilities for sustainable self reliance and to improve electricity power generation for economic development in the country.
"As the traditional energy sources is scarce, it is only rational for us to look upward to the sun for an alternative source of energy.
"The sun is largely responsible for almost all our conventional energy sources and has been fully accepted as a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly energy source."
He enjoined participants to be aware of the direct contribution that solar energy could make to the economy.
He urged participants to make use of the skills they acquired during the training to be self employed and to address the challenge of epileptic power supply in the nation.
Muhammed assured that the NDE would do everything to implement Federal Government's agenda on employment creation and addressing the problem of power generation.
